A number of years ago I was collaborating with my longtime colleague and friend, Jeff Klein on his book, Working for Good: Making a Difference While Making a Living. Jeff had recorded conversations he’d had with a number of conscious and successful business leaders and I transcribed them. As I listened, I was struck by one particular golden thread between all of them: unfailingly, each of these leaders had a personal practice which fueled them in the way they show up for their work and their lives and to which they were unwaveringly committed.
That intersection of personal practice and everything it touches has held my curiosity all these years. For the most part, we all know simple practices can make a huge difference in the way we show up for our lives. If we drink enough water, get enough exercise and sleep, eat well, etc. we perform and experience our days more optimally….yet, many of us let ourselves off the hook in our commitments to these and other meaningful and effective practices.
I believe that sharing stories about personal practice has the potential to deeply serve one another. My hope is that you are inspired by the shared stories here that they move you to take action to renew or deepen your commitment to an existing practice or try on a new one. Perhaps you’ll be inspired to share your own story as well.
I am deeply grateful to all of my friends, old and new, who have said yes to participating and yes to your practices. Towards our collective practice-fueled optimal lives!
