My personal practice is……

An array of yoga and meditation practices, stemming from Kundalini yoga and positive visualization.

How did you discover your practice?

My best friend invited me to Kundalini yoga 14 years ago and it spoke to my soul deeply. I became aware that my mind often kept me from my true potential and that I did not have to listen to it.

Why do you practice?

It aids in the release of stress, tension and anxiety.

How frequently and for how long do you practice?

It depends… I usually have some sort of practice everyday, even if it is very short. Anything from one minute of stretch pose or five minutes of mindful breathing and visualization to two hours of yoga and meditation.

What’s something that gets in the way of your practice and how to you move through it?

What get’s in the way is often not prioritizing time. What helps me move through the “time” issue is just doing something short, instead of putting so much pressure on myself to do a whole kriya* and meditation.

There is always time to stop what I am doing, take a couple deep breaths and do some neck rolls to release tension and center myself.

* A kriya is a series of Kundalini yoga exercises.

What supports you in staying committed to your practice?

Simplicity and how good, focused and centered I feel.

What role does your practice play in your work and life?

Seriously Yoga and meditation (along with dance) keep my sanity on a regular basis. If I did not have this practice, I do not know what would become of me… I would probably sink into the dark abyss of the mind.

Describe someone you know whose practice inspires you.

My yoga instructor Gurmukh. She is amazing, strong, bright and looks far younger than you would imagine her to be. I am inspired by her commitment to Kundalini Yoga and the Sikh tradition.

A practice I’d like to explore is….

Getting into nature on a more regular basis. I am fed so deeply by our planet Earth and don’t prioritize as much time as I would like to, to commune with her inspiration and wisdom

Anything else you’d like to share about practice.

Just do it… Nike was really onto something with that campaign! It doesn’t have to take a lot of time, a lot of thinking or planning… or look like anything anyone else is doing. It is your own personal time to plug into source and connect to the vast energies that exist in our grand universe. Even just putting your feet in the grass in your backyard and feeling grateful for your breath, life, clothes, home… what ever brings you joy. Just do it! That is going to tap you into the infinite flow of love available to us all. We are love. Sat Nam (truth is my divine essence).
